When we were introduced to Dr Pete Peterson by a mutual friend, and spoke with him for the first time on the phone, we immediately realized we were talking with someone who even by Project Camelot standards had a quite enormous amount of high quality information, backed by personal experience, on an astonishingly large range of subjects.
We told our friend David Wilcock. David felt very strongly – as a psychic intuitive – that we needed to visit Dr Peterson immediately while he was willing to give on-record testimony. So this interview straight away broke new ground: it was the first Camelot interview in which David joined the two of us for the interview. A few days later, Bill flew to the US from Europe for the weekend especially for the meeting – which was held over two long days.
We talked extensively off-record, and Dr Peterson was extremely cautious about presenting some of his testimony on video. But we nevertheless recorded nearly four hours of testimony. Listen carefully to the questions and the answers – especially in Kerry’s Part 3 (Part 1 was Bill and Part 2 was David) – and enjoy the very end of Part 2, just as that part of the interview fades. (This is our favorite section, and we have very purposely left it in.)
Dr Peterson is an extremely well-informed insider – and a most remarkable and brilliant scientist – who came forward to talk with us publicly because he feels the issues he cares deeply about, and knows about, are too important to keep silent about. We salute his courage.
Among the many things Dr Peterson spoke about at length was his strong, informed belief that there will be a melt-down of the global economy – and US infrastructure – which may be almost upon us; that Obama is planning to disclose the reality of ET contact by the end of the year; and that most, but not all, of the ET visitors are friendly.
There is much, much more. Here is a very general list of the subjects we discussed:

The release of this video was delayed because Dr Peterson was concerned that it might contain some material that was just too sensitive, and which might endanger us. He spent some time checking with colleagues to ensure that we would be safe to release the material. At the time of writing, he has not specified what these sensitive parts of the video are – though one might guess. We have taken the decision to take these risks upon our own shoulders and to release the interview in its entirety. It has not been cut.
We hope that those who have been waiting this for what feels (to us also!) quite a long time may understand the complexities and many factors involved, and that being a whistleblower is far from a simple matter. Dr Peterson is a person of high integrity who is very concerned about some of the problems faced by the human race, and who to his immense credit feels that he must give a warning. Besides the warning, as you will see, he offers a substantial smorgasbord of fascinating information on a very broad range of subjects.

Fairy tales have ancient origin

Popular fairy tales and folk stories are more ancient than was previously thought, according research by biologists.

They have been told as bedtime stories by generations of parents, but fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood may be even older than was previously thought.

A study by anthropologists has explored the origins of folk tales and traced the relationship between varients of the stories recounted by cultures around the world.

 

The researchers adopted techniques used by biologists to create the taxonomic tree of life, which shows how every species comes from a common ancestor.

Dr Jamie Tehrani, a cultural anthropologist at Durham University, studied 35 versions of Little Red Riding Hood from around the world.

Whilst the European version tells the story of a little girl who is tricked by a wolf masquerading as her grandmother, in the Chinese version a tiger replaces the wolf.

In Iran, where it would be considered odd for a young girl to roam alone, the story features a little boy.

Contrary to the view that the tale originated in France shortly before Charles Perrault produced the first written version in the 17th century, Dr Tehrani found that the varients shared a common ancestor dating back more than 2,600 years.

He said: “Over time these folk tales have been subtly changed and have evolved just like an biological organism. Because many of them were not written down until much later, they have been misremembered or reinvented through hundreds of generations.

“By looking at how these folk tales have spread and changed it tells us something about human psychology and what sort of things we find memorable.

“The oldest tale we found was an Aesopic fable that dated from about the sixth century BC, so the last common ancestor of all these tales certainly predated this. We are looking at a very ancient tale that evolved over time.”

Dr Tehrani, who will present his work on Tuesday at the British Science Festival in Guildford, Surrey, identified 70 variables in plot and characters between different versions of Little Red Riding Hood.

He found that the stories could be grouped into distinct families according to how they evolved over time.

The original ancestor is thought to be similar to another tale, The Wolf and the Kids, in which a wolf pretends to be a nanny goat to gain entry to a house full of young goats.

Stories in Africa are closely related to this original tale, whilst stories from Japan, Korea, China and Burma form a sister group. Tales told in Iran and Nigeria were the closest relations of the modern European version.

Perrault’s French version was retold by the Brothers Grimm in the 19th century. Dr Tehrani said: “We don’t know very much about the processes of transmission of these stories from culture to culture, but it is possible that they may being passed along trade routes or with the movement of people.”

Professor Jack Zipes, a retired professor of German at the University of Minnesota who is an expert on fairy tales and their origins, described the work as “exciting”. He believes folk tales may have helped people to pass on tips for survival to new generations.

He said: “Little Red Riding Hood is about violation or rape, and I suspect that humans were just as violent in 600BC as they are today, so they will have exchanged tales about all types of violent acts.

“I have tried to show that tales relevant to our adaptation to the environment and survival are stored in our brains and we consistently use them for all kinds of reference points.”

Could this finally be it – 40 minutes of undisputed proof that we are not alone?

Scientists at the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing, China believe it is a real possibility that this footage of an unidentified flying object is the evidence we have all been waiting for.

They have confirmed 40 minutes of footage of the object was captured during this summer’s solar eclipse – and that research has already started on a year-long investigation to find out what it is.

And the scientists were not the only ones to capture the walnut-shaped object on camera. 

The clear, daylight sighting occurred over Deqing in Guandong Province. Dozens of students claimed to have seen the object sailing through the air during a rooftop observation of the July 22 solar eclipse.

At least nine of the students photographed it, producing such incredible images as those here.

The UFO was also seen to change colour and shape, with the students claiming it initially appeared to be a glowing blue colour, but later darkened.

Yesterday Chinese media outlet Sina.com reported that the Purple Mountain Observatory and Chinese Academy of Sciences claimed:

‘China had discovered near the sun, by observation staff, an unidentified object. Its physical nature remains to be further studied.

‘Currently manpower is being organised to deal with this data, complete the data analysis and reveal the scientific results. This will take at least one year’s time to finalise.

‘Purple Mountain Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences Fellow Ji Hai-sheng said at present it is impossible to speculate what the unidentified object is.

‘However research has started.’

The UFO world is already waiting with bated breath for the results to come in.

Biologists have figured out the most efficient way to destroy an ecosystem — and it’s based on the Google search algorithm.

Scientists have long known that the extinction of key species in a food web can cause collapse of the entire system, but the vast number of interactions between species makes it difficult to guess which animals and plants are the most important. Now, computational biologists have adapted the Google search algorithm, called PageRank, to the problem of predicting ecological collapse, and they’ve created a startlingly accurate model.

“While several previous studies have looked at the robustness of food webs to a variety of sequences of species loss, none of them have come up with a way to identify the most devastating sequence of extinctions,” said food web biologist Jennifer Dunne of the Santa Fe Institute, who was not involved in the research. Using a modified version of PageRank, Dunne said, the researchers were able to identify which species extinctions within a food web would lead to biggest chain-reaction of species death.

“If we can find the way of removing species so that the destruction of the ecosystem is the fastest, it means we’re ranking species by their importance,” said ecologist Stefano Allesina of the University of California, Santa Barbara, who co-authored the paper published Friday in PLoS Computational Biology.

Unlike previous solutions to the coextinction problem, the Google solution takes into account not only the number of connections between species, but also their relative importance. “In PageRank, you’re an important website if important websites point to you,” Allesina said. “We took that idea and reversed it: Species are important if they support important species.”

In other words, grass is important because it’s eaten by gazelles, and gazelles are important because they’re eaten by lions.

When the researchers tested the Google algorithm against existing models for predicting ecosystem collapse, they found that the new solution outperformed the old ones in each of the 12 food webs they looked at. “In every case that we tested, the algorithm returned either the best possible solution, out of the billions of possibilities, or very close to it,” Allesina said. In this case, the “best possible solution” is the one that predicts total ecosystem collapse using the fewest number of species extinctions.

To make the circular PageRank algorithm work for food webs, which are traditionally considered unidirectional, the researchers had to solve the problem of what to do with dead ends: Not much eats a lion, but that doesn’t necessarily mean lions aren’t critical to the food chain. The scientists solved this problem by adding what Allesina calls a “root node,” which is based on the idea that all living creatures contribute to the food chain through their excrement and eventual decay.

“What we found is that the importance of a species can be connected to the amount of matter that flows to it,” Allesina said. “If species eat a lot of things, and a lot of things eat them, they tend to be important.” Previous solutions to the problem tended to underestimate the importance of species that are lower on the food chain, Allesina said, and he hopes the new solution will encourage conservation biologists to take a broader view of species extinctions.

“What I hope is that people will pick up interest and start thinking about conservation in a more network-based way,” Allesina said. “Right now, most conservationists are focused on a single species, and they just study that species. But you really have to take into account that this species is not independent, it’s really tangled in a network of multi-species interactions.”

For ecosystems on the brink of collapse, such as marine environments taxed by overfishing, Allesina said a network-based approach to conservation could make all the difference.

Spacecraft Could Save Earth from Asteroids

(PhysOrg.com) — British space engineers working for a space company in Stevenage in England, have designed a "gravity tractor" spacecraft to deflect any asteroids threatening to collide with Earth. The announcement comes only weeks after an asteroid collision scar around the size of Earth was detected on Jupiter.

A collision with an asteroid is a rare event, but scientists believe it is inevitable that sooner or later an asteroid will come close enough to be a real threat. In fact in 2004 an asteroid called Apophis caused alarm when scientists predicted there was a 1:37 chance of it hitting Earth in 2029, which is the greatest threat in recorded history. They later revised their figures but it could still be on course to collide in 2036. The US space agency, NASA estimates there are at least 1000 "potentially hazardous asteroids."

NASA is so concerned about the threat it has set up a monitoring program to track every space object that could be an asteroid on a collision course. They are so far tracking over 6,000 asteroids whose orbits bring them close to Earth, but there are an estimated 100,000 asteroids large enough to wipe out a city.

A collision could be catastrophic, depending on how large the asteroid is and where it hits. A direct hit to a city by even a relatively small asteroid the size of a football field, for example, could completely destroy the city and kill millions of people. Many more could be killed by tsunamis triggered by the impact, and by dust and burning material thrown up into the atmosphere after the collision.

The engineers, led by Dr Ralph Cordey, head of exploration and business at EADS Astrium, a British space company, have designed what they call a "gravity tractor", a ten-tonne spacecraft around 100 feet long that could provide a practical way of averting a collision with Earth.

The device would be launched as soon as an asteroid was found to be on course to crash into the planet, and would fly alongside it at a distance of about 160 feet away. The craft could divert an asteroid up to 430 yards in diameter, and an impact with an asteroid this size would release around 100,000 times the energy of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945.

The gravity tractor is designed to draw the asteroid towards itself by exerting a small gravitational force on it. The spacecraft would then steer the asteroid away into an orbit away from Earth.

The craft would use four ion thrusters, which are low energy and efficient, of the type commonly used on deep space probes. The ion thrusters enable the craft to adjust its position relative to the asteroid. The gravitational pull exerted by the asteroid would be enough to nudge the rock into a different, and less dangerous, trajectory.

The process of steering the asteroid away from a collision course would take several years, with the craft changing the angle of trajectory by only a fraction of an inch over 15 years, but that is enough change to divert an asteroid. The spacecraft would need to be launched at least 15 (preferably 20) years before the predicted collision to give it time to adjust the asteroid’s trajectory away from Earth.

The design team say the gravity tractor could be built fairly quickly with existing technologies, although a prototype has not yet been built. They have planned the details of the mission, and expect the cost could be shared by a number of governments if an asteroid on track to hit Earth was discovered, and international agreements would need to be drawn up.

NASA published a paper earlier this year on the feasibility of using a gravity tractor for this purpose, and they concluded it could be extremely effective if there was enough warning. With scientists saying the asteroid Apophis could possibly be on a course to collide with Earth in 2036, perhaps we do have enough warning.

Quantum computer slips onto chips

Chips like this one could form the basis for future optical computers

Researchers have devised a penny-sized silicon chip that uses photons to run Shor’s algorithm – a well-known quantum approach – to solve a maths problem.

The algorithm computes the two numbers that multiply together to form a given figure, and has until now required laboratory-sized optical computers.

This kind of factoring is the basis for a wide variety of encryption schemes.

The work, reported in Science, is rudimentary but could easily be scaled up to handle more complex computing.

Shor’s algorithm and the factoring of large numbers has been a particular case used to illustrate the power of quantum computing.

Quantum computers exploit the counterintuitive fact that photons or trapped atoms can exist in multiple states or "superpositions" at the same time.

For certain types of calculations, that "quantum indeterminacy" gives quantum computers a significant edge.

While traditional or "classical" computers find factoring large numbers impracticably time-consuming, for example, quantum computers can in principle crack the problem with ease.

That has important implications for encryption methods based on factoring, such as the "RSA" method that is used to make transactions on the internet more secure.

Optical computing has been touted as a potential future for information processing, by using packets of light instead of electrons as the information carrier.

But these packets, called photons, are also endowed with the indeterminate properties that make them quantum objects – so an optical computer can also be a quantum computer.

In fact just this kind of photon-based quantum factoring has been accomplished before, but the ability to put the heart of the machine on a standard chip is promising for future applications of the idea.

"The way people used to make this kind of circuit consumed square metres of laboratory space and took graduate students many months to align," said Jeremy O’Brien, the University of Bristol researcher who led the work.

"Doubling the complexity of the circuit often times turns it from being a difficult task to a practically impossible one, whereas for us to double the complexity it’s really straightforward," he told BBC News.

The Bristol team’s approach makes use of waveguides – channels etched into the chips that provide a path for the photons around the chips like the minuscule wires in conventional electronics.

While Professor O’Brien said he is confident that such waveguides are the logical choice for future optical quantum computers, he added that there is still a significant amount of work to do before they make it out of the laboratory.

"To get a useful computer it needs to be probably a million times more complex, so a full-scale useful factoring machine is still at least two decades away," he said.

"But this is one important step in that direction."

Famed Mexican UFO researcher and TV personality Jaime Maussan has released information about an apparent alien body that is under study in Mexico. Mr. Maussan tells Unknowncountry.com that the body is definitely real, but so far none of the DNA testing has revealed any known DNA. Anatomically, the creature displays a combination of structures similar to humans, such as joints, and others that suggest a reptilian origin. He drowned the creature, a process that took him over an hour because it could live for extended periods under water. Subsequently, Lopez was found burned to death in a car parked on a roadside near his home. So far, DNA testing on the remains has been inconclusive. Four tests turned up no known DNA, and a fifth test is inconclusive. More testing is planned. This is suspiciously similar to the reports from a coroner about human mutilations that Whitley heard many years ago.

Move over Michelle, watch your backs, Carla and Sarah. There’s a new kid on the first lady block, and she looks like upstaging the lot of you.

Miyuki Hatoyama, wife of Japan’s Prime Minister-elect, Yukio Hatoyama, is a lifestyle guru, a macrobiotics enthusiast, an author of cookery books, a retired actress, a divorcee, and a fearless clothes horse for garments of her own creation, including a skirt made from Hawaiian coffee sacks. But there is more, much more. She has travelled to the planet Venus. And she was once abducted by aliens.

The 62-year-old also knew Tom Cruise in a former incarnation – when he was Japanese – and is now looking forward to making a Hollywood movie with him. "I believe he’d get it if I said to him, ‘Long time no see’, when we meet," she said in a recent interview. But it is her claim in a book entitled "Very Strange Things I’ve Encountered" that she was abducted by aliens while she slept one night 20 years ago, that has suddenly drawn attention following last Sunday’s poll.

"While my body was asleep, I think my soul rode on a triangular-shaped UFO and went to Venus," she explains in the tome she published last year. "It was a very beautiful place, and it was very green."

When the new Japanese first lady related her adventures to her then husband, he told her flatteningly that it was probably just a dream. But she is confident that Yukio, the man now entrusted with the task of hauling Japan out of its deepest recession, would have reacted very differently. "My current husband has a different way of thinking. He would surely say, ‘Oh, that’s great’," she wrote. Mrs Hatoyama’s self-confidence in projecting her personality, and shattering the traditional expectations of a political wife, probably derives from her early years as a dancer in Japan’s legendary all-female Takarazuka theatrical troupe.

Founded in 1913, Takarazuka has long enjoyed cult status in Japan. The star players in its glitzy, saccharine, ferociously camp productions of US classics like Gone with the Wind enjoy superstar status among the armies of women that flock to the shows. Takarazuka’s actresses are picked from thousands of teenage hopefuls in a stringent selection process and subjected to a quasi-monastic training regimen. While a handful become household names, the great majority, like Mrs Hatoyama, retire after a few years. But the aura of belonging to this exclusive sorority clings to them for ever.

After six years Mrs Hatoyama quit the troupe and went to the United States. It was there, while working in a Japanese restaurant in San Francisco, that she met Yukio, then a graduate student at Stanford University. Miyuki was still married to her first husband. "The average man chooses his mate from among unmarried women," Mr Hatoyama boasted years later. "I chose mine from among all women."

Rejecting the reticence that is customary in Japan, Mr Hatoyama makes no secret of his devotion to his multi-talented wife. His website has a photo of the pair of them in an affectionate pose, and he admits happily to being what the Japanese call a "my-home-papa". "I feel relieved when I get home," he says. "She is like an energy refuelling base."

Though Mr Hatoyama is a multi-millionaire and the fourth generation of his family to rise to the top of the Japanese political world, his appearance is unconventional by rigid Japanese standards: his hair is unruly and he rejects the navy uniform of the political world in favour of suits of brown and moss green.

It is this refusal to bow to convention, as well as his tendency to drop conversation-stopping remarks – like his call, during the election campaign, for a "politics full of love" – that long ago led other Japanese politicians to dismiss him as an uchujin, an alien

. Though not, presumably, the one who took Miyuki to Venus.

The Andromeda galaxy, which borders our own Milky Way, may have expanded through acts of "cannibalism." In a new mapping of Andromeda, researchers found evidence of stars that were the "remnants of dwarf galaxies," like Triangulum, which grazed Andromeda around 2.5 billion years ago. 3D TV ‘to get Sony backing’

3D television should be available in people’s homes by the end of next year.

That’s what the chief executive of Sony, Sir Howard Stringer, is expected to say at a trade show in Berlin this afternoon.

For such an influential industry person to get involved with, and back so strongly, what is still very new technology shows how far it’s come in the last few years.

2009 has seen an explosion in the number of 3D cinema screens across the UK – with ten new ones opening every week.

If you believe the hype a new film from James Cameron, the man behind Titantic, will revolutionise the genre when it’s released in December.

Some scepticism

Avatar has been filmed entirely in 3D using new, ground breaking technology.

But it has been tried before, first in the 1950s and then the 1980s, and both times it failed to make any lasting impact.

Dan Sherwood isn’t convinced that 3D TV will take off

Now though, with Sony getting in on the act the chances are it won’t be long before 3D TV is a reality too.

Not everyone’s convinced though.

Dan Sherwood is from Milton Keynes. He said: "Having just upgraded my TV for digital and everything I’m probably not looking to upgrade again just for 3D.

"My view of 3D is those strange little coloured glasses. As for whether or not it’ll catch on? Probably not."

The same goes for Kaye from London. She said: "I think it’s a bit weird, don’t think I’d like it. I like normal TV where I don’t have to watch 3D things."

But Chris Sabogale who is 29 and from Walthamstow disagrees.

He said: "My initial reaction is that it’d be absolutely amazing. I love the fact that I could have a 3D image in my lounge.

"To see that world brought right in through your front door would be pretty amazing."
